Beach trips, barbecues, swimming pools, and oh wait…homeschool?! Yes, you heard me.  SCHOOL IS STARTING!  Homeschool that is.  While many of you still have  a month or more left to go, many homeschoolers are starting in July.  As a homeschooling family, we have the benefit of creating our own schedule and being able to school year round.  So, amidst all the summer fun, we will be adding in some school time so we can have easier weeks (3 or 4 school days) and much longer breaks to enjoy the holidays.  Now it doesn’t sounds all that bad, eh? In preparation…

Some key tips to staying on a tight grocery budget is to meal plan and only visit the grocery store once a week. Before kids, I was trying to find new and interesting recipes all the time, meal planning and shopping used to take up hours and hours of my week.  I would go to different grocery stores around town at least 3xs a week (hey, it’s kinda fun!). I would cut coupons and buy that stuff because I was getting something I figured we would use at a good discount.  Many many times, I would come home having spent…

Books are fantastic gifts for kid’s birthdays, baby showers, christmas, adult birthdays, etc.  We do love a good used book store, but many situations call for a brand new book. Around last year, we got a new store in Nashville (technically Madison) called Ollie’s.  It’s kinda your run-of-the-mill discounty store like Big Lots. Most of their pricing is mediocre with the exception of their book section…it’s amazing! You know lots of new books can set you back $8, $15, even up to $25 for some nice big ones.  And mamas, we gotta buy books! Ollie’s has a huge section right…

I love the Y!  If you get creative with your membership, there are so many needs you can fill. Babysitters too expensive?  Don’t ever get a date night with your spouse?  Try the Y! The Y-play in Downtown Nashville is open at 8 am on Sat.  Get your family together, if you wanna get fancy, you could pack a picnic brunch.   Drop the kids at the Y-play for your 2 hour limit and have a kidfree morning with the hubs <3 Check in at the front desk to get some racquetball equipment.  They have tons of courts so one should…

With all the snow and cold weather we’ve been getting lately, we’ve got to find places to get some energy out! There are a few free indoor playgrounds in Nashville.  One of the newest play places, Tito’s Playland, is a part of a unique indoor shopping center called Plaza Mariachi.  It’s not too far from the Nashville zoo, right on Nolensville Pike. Tito’s Playland is completely free to enter.  There is a great play area with one massive twisty slide and a smaller but super fast one.  Very small kids probably wouldn’t enjoy the slides, but there is plenty to…

There’s pretty much nothing I love better than FREE.  Even better when you get to go home with a hands on project! My kids love visiting the Home Depot workshop every month.  Many times, my husband has taken one or both kids for a fun morning out with dad (and a little break for mom).  It’s always on the first Sat of the month and you can register beforehand on their website. It starts around 9 and ends at 12, check your local store for their exact hours. The first time you go, you will get your own kid sized…

I love my kids, I do.  I love having the opportunity to stay at home with them.  But, as someone who teeters on that introvert/extravert line, I can only handle so many questions and chatter.  Sometimes I need a minute to think in my own head, to take a deep breath, to sip and not chug a cup of coffee.  Sometimes I need to do some paperwork or business and I’ve gotta have a little bit of childcare.   Babysitters are expensive these days, yall! You know daycare is!  Mother’s day out is a good option, but I don’t need…

We didn’t buy the new iPhone! Just kidding, ha!  Well, maybe not 🙂  This article is more about the phone plan savings than it is about the actual phone.  As of Nov 2017, I don’t even think you can buy an iPhone on this plan, but there are some expensive android options. My husband and I had previously been loyal Sprint users (11 years!).  Great unlimited plans, great customer service, and plenty of phone options that we liked.  We were getting a slightly discounted rate of about $150/month for 2 lines with basically unlimited usage (that number includes insurance,…
