oDesk is by far my favorite virtual workplace environment. You can find independent contract jobs on everything from web development, writing, video publishing, to data entry and order processing. Not only that, but oDesk has a full suite of software that helps you manage all the different companies that you do work for by keeping track of your hours worked, and requesting payments for you weekly. You can also have your payments deposited into your bank account through ACH free of charge. The downside of oDesk is that it is work to get set up on oDesk and make it work for you. Some of the instructions on the website are also unclear. Because of this, I almost gave up using the service several times. However, I'm glad I didn't. I now use oDesk to get contract work, and I also outsource work to others. Are you interested in trying oDesk out? It's free for job seekers to use. However, if you end up feeling overwhelmed remember to come back here and contact me. I would be delighted to share with you the information I learned to get up and going, and will even help you secure your first job. __________________

ODesk is Five Star !!
Ditto on ODesk!
Having attempted to work from home for the past 10 years, I will gleefully concur with the post on ODesk! It offers MANY different Project Opportunities, which meet most WAH Skill Sets. You do not have to PAY to WORK, which unfortunately, most other viable and legitimate WAH sites request, as various forms of renumeration (monthly fees, per project fees, etc.). Additonally, most other viable Venues allow you to bid on a very limited amount of Projects per month, while ODesk allows 20 PER WEEK.
So, Shauna, yeah you!!! and THANKS SO MUCH!

Do you get the majority of your work from oDesk, or do you do some of the other sites as well, like Guru.com and GetaFreelancer.com?

I'm the one behind this site. Just trying to create a resource to help moms balance working at home and family life! I guess I do it for selfish reasons, because I need the same help finding balance and figure that maybe we can do it together!

ODesk
I prefer ODesk, because it is more reliable, with quality project listings, etc. I keep an eye on Getafreelancer because I can "catch" a quick project or two, here and there.
Certainly I would advise all to take the time to check out ODesk!!
