Shauna's Biography

Hello, my name is Shauna. I'm a mother of one, Oklahoman, brain tumor survivor, and Web 2.0 enthusiast. I'm just trying to be a good person and learn to be more sustainable. And even more, I just want to be a good mom.

I've been given the opportunity to start my life over after 7 surgeries (since the summer of 2006) to remove my brain tumor. I'm finally tumor-free and done with surgery. Now I'm just trying to refocus my energies into things that help others and work with my "new normal" (since I do have limitations that I didn't have prior to all the surgery).

I'm the one behind http://www.thenewstayathomemom.com but you won't see this biography posted on any of the main pages or see me blogging about anything personal.

I've maintained personal blogs before, but decided that this website would just be about providing quality online tools and services for stay at home and work at home moms, and that I'd keep my personal life out of it.

I just know how important it has been for me to start living life out of my home. Before I was sick I worked long hours at a job that stressed me out and I rarely had enough energy at the end of the day to enjoy my family and home life. So not only is this website helpful to me in trying to acheive the quality of home-work-balance that I desire, but I hope that it also will assist other moms that are on the same journey (trying to escape the corporate 9-5 world and move back into their homes without completely giving up satisfying work).

I'm a huge fan of Jeremiah Owyang and Kathy Sierra. Much of what I hope this site will become has been inspired by their wisdom.

The goal of this website is to provide three main tools: one where you can maintain your budget quickly and easily each month, two where you can make a 7-day meal plan (or steal another user's) according to how much money you have in your grocery budget (never shared with anyone but you), and three where you can have all of this in an easy to use to do list that also helps you manage a housekeeping regime and all of your other daily/weekly/monthly todos.

I am open to any suggestions you might have on these tools (as they are as much for other moms as they are for me). I hope you'll register and try the beta version of our online budgeting tool. The more feedback we get, the more useful we can make it! Plus, you'll be entered into a drawing for an Amazon.com giftcard if you do test it out and post a blog review.

Feel free to post tips, work at home opportunities, recipies or coupon codes to this site, or to rank the ones already listed. The more input we get here the more useful it is to all the moms out there. Plus, you can set up a signature file with links back to your website so that you get a little extra traffic out of the deal too!!
